In September of 2013 I had the privilege of heading to St. Louis to brew a collaboration beer with Penrose at Perennial Artisan Ales in St. Louis. It just so happened to be the same weekend Perennial's head brewer, Cory King, was launching his "side project" — Side Project Brewing. In the time since this first release, Cory has turned Side Project into his full-time focus, opening his own brewery in Maplewood, Mo., and operating the Side Project Cellar with his wife, Karen, which received Semifinalist recognition from the James Beard Foundation for Outstanding Bar Program in 2016.

I'm just happy to have captured the magic — and Cory's "holy shit" face — on Side Project's first day facing the public a few short years ago.
